This image of schooling barracuda was taken in Palau. While most people think of barracuda as being solitary fish, it’s not uncommon for them to school, especially when they are younger and smaller than adults. The schooling action offers protection from predators. Barracuda are famously attracted to shiny objects, often hunting fish with golden or silver scales. Divers are advised to leave their jewelry (or other shiny objects) behind before they dive where barracuda may live.
