This image of an East African cheetah was taken along the shore of Lake Masek in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area in Tanzania. I loved the striking contrast of the cheetah and the bright pink of the flamingos in the water. It’s widely known the cheetah is the world’s fastest land animal, with average maximum speeds varying from 60 to 80 miles per hour. Cheetahs are mainly active during the day while other big cats (such as leopards and lions) are more active at night---this allows the cheetahs to protect not only their kills, but protect themselves from larger predators.
